“Snakes I started creating after the woman’s group at Nairm Marr Djambana burnt clap sticks for welcome baby to ceremony. I was obsessed. I went straight home and ordered a Pyrography machines off Amazon and started dragging home fallen gum or tea tree branches from my ally way I lived near. My nanna also used to do these things, I have some clap sticks and message sticks she had made for me in Western Australia before she passed. My mother had said I reminded her of her mum when i was burning the branches into snakes. It’s something I can do with my daughter, so i love that it is a a way we can connect with our history and our future.”
