This artwork honours the significance of shields within Bunurong and Boon Wurrung culture of south-eastern Victoria. Traditionally crafted from Country, shields represent protection, strength, resilience and cultural knowledge. More than an object of defence, the shield symbolises the responsibility to protect people, culture and Country, and the strength of knowledge carried from our Ancestors through the generations.
