“The Murray River flows from the Australian Alps through to The Coorong and into the Mouth of The Murray, The Great Australian Bight it is here the Ngarrindjeri say is the resting place of Pondi. There are many stories of the creation of the Murray River from the Yorta Yorta story of the Elder with the walking cane where she walked across the land and carved out the Murray River – Dhungala to allow the Mountain waters to flow and for the Pondi to swim the river.
The Ngarrindjeri have a story of a hunter who was out hunting and came across Pondi and speared him and as he was getting away he carved out Murrundi.
Here we can see the beautiful colours of the Birrang on the Murray, and the Pondi them swimming the Murray River – Dhungala.”
