“Boworring is about teaching and passing on our Culture and stories. With the Waradjuri we are of an oral tradition where our history is passed on to the next generations to keep our Culture and stories alive for years to come.
When we come together, we are welcomed with the gum leaves as part of smoking ceremonies to cleanse your soul and ward of bad spirits. We come together to tell our many stories and about what identifies us to who we are and where we come from. There are our Marking and Patterns that are carved into out artifacts and scar trees and adorn our bodies as Tribal Markings. You will see the many canoe trees along the Murrumbigee, Murray and many other rivers across Waradjuri Land.
Along the rivers and in particular the Murray River and Murrumbidgee River is where you will see our Bora Grounds with our ground carvings and tree carvings. The Yorta Yorta call the Murray River Dhungala and their creation story of the Murray River is of an Elder as she walked across the land with her cane and as it carved into the land it allowed the Mountain Waters to flow creating Dhungala. As the water flowed it brought with it the many different fish and the one which is well known the Murray Cod which they call Pondi.”
